It's difficult to accurately evaluate the present day worth of ancient coinage, but according to most sources a Talent was worth between $1000 and $2500. A Mina was around 3 months wages equivalent.
@ Trevor, your right it is difficult. I to have heard the both the numbers you are quoting and the numbers (give or take) quoted in the "comic". to what was the point of the correction if the best answer is "most sources". The only fact about the value of a talent is that we don't know and as long as we understand it was a huge sum of money to those who received it then Jesus made His point. Don't let your talent be the gift of correction.
I have worked as a graphic artist and as an Episcopal priest. I have loved both experiences, and now am seeking a way to combine the two vocations, to see how the experience and practice of both disciplines can be brought together to translate the bible into a way that will speak to our generation. My wife and I have recently completed graphic novel translations of Jonah, Amos and Esther, titled the Unlikely Chosen.
